Paul Valthaty and Adam Gilchrist scored 24 runs in 3 overs before Paul Valthaty got out after scoring just 8 runs. Shaun Marsh and Adam Gilchrist then played sensibly but Gilchrist was retired hurt in the 6th over while attempting a single. This gave KKR a ray of hope and the bowlers used it to their complete advantage. The runs drained and Lee got the priced wicket of Shaun Marsh. D Hussey was run out leaving Punjab struggling at 87/4 in 14.2 overs. It was due to superb bowling and fielding by KKR that Kings XI Punjab was restricted to a modest total of 124/7 in 20 overs.
Chasing a modest 125 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders got to a flying start as B McCullum and G Gambhir added 53 runs in 5.5 overs before B McCullum got out. Gambhir played superbly from one end and took the team score to 74 when Bisla got out after scoring 11 runs. KKR needed 50 to win from 10 overs and captain Gambhir (66 off 44 balls, 7×4,1×6) along with Kallis (30 off 23 balls, 2×4, 1×6) took the team to a comfortable 8 wicket win.
