Today in the 29th match of DLF IPL 2012, Kolkata Knight Riders elected to field first after winning the toss. The match was delayed by 1 hour due to rain and KKR took full advantage of the moist conditions. Deccan Chargers opened the inning with K Sangakkara and S Dhawan and they added 37 runs in 5.5 overs for the first wicket partnership. The first breakthrough for KKR came in form of Sangakkara who got out after scoring just 12 runs. Dhawan along with Patel then took the team score to 81 before Patel got out. This wicket was the turning point of Deccan innings as wickets tumbled one after the another. Finally it was due to S Dhawan’s 50 off 50 balls that Deccan Chargers posted a modest total of 126/7 in 20 overs.
Chasing 127 to win Kolkata Knight Riders lost the wicket of B McCullum in the third over when the team score was just 16. Bisla was the next to go and KKR were struggling 44/2 in 7 overs. KKR needed 83 to win from 78 balls and had 8 wickets in hand but some good bowling by DC made sure that KKR had to earn this win. Gambhir and Yusuf Pathan got out in quick succession leaving KKR at 72/4 in 10.4 overs. J Kallis and Manoj Tiwary then took the team score past 100 before Kallis got out. But D Das and Manoj Tiwary finally took their team to a 5 wicket in the last over.
