Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss today and elected to field first against Rajasthan Royals in the 7th match of DLF IPL Season 5. A Rahane who scored a brilliant 98 in the last match was run out for a duck leaving RR at 1/1 in 1.3 overs. S Goswami then joined R Dravid at center and the duo took the score to 44 when again RR lost the wicket of Rahul Dravid (26 off 24 balls, 2×4 and 2×6) via run out. S Goswami was also bowled out soon and RR were struggling at 61/3 in 8.4 overs. A Menaria and B Hodge then had a superb 64 run partnership which took the RR score past 100. B Hodge (44 runs off 29 balls, 3×4 and 2×6) was the next to get out but A Menaria continued where he left. Menaria (40 runs off 30balls, 4×4 and 1×6) got out when Royals had 152 total on board and 8 balls were left in the innings. But O Shah continued hitting boundaries and helped Royals post 164/5 in 20 overs
Kolkata Knight Riders needed 165 and thus needed a good start but RR bowlers ripped apart their top order as they got three crucial wickets in three balls to reduce KKR to 8/3 in 2.1 overs. J Kallis, G Gambhir and B McCullum were back in pavilion and the responsibility was on Manoj Tiwary and D Das but Das also failed leaving KKR at 25/4 in 5.4 overs. Manoj Tiwary and Y Pathan then had a good partnership and just when they were able to play freely, Yousuf Pathan got out leaving KKR struggling at 66/5 in 10.2 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders needed 88 to win from last 8 overs but wickets felt at regular intervals making it hard for them. Though Brett Lee and Tiwary played some exquisite shots but it was not enough for KKR were all out for 142 and thus lost the match by 22 runs.
