Dav Whatmore resigns as coach of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders
In a sudden turn of events, Kolkata Knight Riders coach Dav Whatmore has resigned and might take up the job as coach of Pakistan Cricket team.
In a statement Whatmore wished success to KKR and said, “The team has progressed in the right direction. I wish the team continued success and look forward to them progressing to silverware in 2012. Many thanks to those who have supported and believed in me.”
Kolkata Knight Riders are expected to announce new coach by Jan 30, 2012 as players auction will be held on February 4, 2012.

Kolkata Knight Riders have topped the point table with better run rate today with a win over Kings XI Punjab. KKR showed a good overall performance to thrash Punjab by 8 wickets. After winning the toss, KKR decided to field first and their bowlers restricted Punjab to 119/6 in 20 overs. D Karthik top scored with 42 runs but none of the other batsmen were able to support him.
Chasing 120 to win, KKR did that in style, though they lost openers cheaply but Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary’s unbeaten partnership of 85 sailed them to victory comfortably.

Result – Kolkata Knight Riders beat Delhi Daredevils by 17 runs
It was a fine performance by Kolkata Knight Riders which helped them win the match by 17 runs and thus move up the points table. Delhi who won the toss and elected to field first got wickets at regular interval but Manoj Tiwary’s brilliant half century helped Kolkata post a total of 148/7 in 20 overs. Chasing 149 to win, KKR bowlers got rid of dangerous Warner and Sehwag cheaply and then ripped apart the entire middle order. Finally Delhi were able to score just 131/9 thus loosing by 17 runs.

It was the explosive batting of Chris Gayle, opener of RCB which made the target of 172 look so easy for the RCB that they won the match by 9 wickets. Gayle playing his first IPL match this season was at his scintillating best as he punished every bowler of KKR and scored a superb 102 off 55 balls.T Dilshan (38) and Virat Kohli (30*) also played well and supported Gayle from other end. Kohli and Gayle then took the team to 9 wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
Earlier RCB won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to decent start and lost their first wicket in 5th over for 44 runs on board. Kallis and G Gambhir then took the team total pass the 100 run mark in 13th over. All the top order batsmen contributed in the total and helped them post a total of 171/5 in 20 overs.
